WATCH:  Ross Thorpe, Head Partner at PwC Australia, talks to Boardroom.Media Reporter Velvet-Belle Templeman regarding how a people-focused approach can lead to significant business growth.

On this week’s episode of The Collective Question, Ross Thorpe shares his insights regarding how a business can achieve significant growth across their daily activities and accomplish essential objectives if they employ an approach focusing on the wellbeing of their employees.

As a leader, one of the most difficult decisions that one can make is choosing the right people for their business. This important choice can be the reason a business finds success in their chosen market or succumbs to failure in the first year of starting operations.

“As a leader, you need to ask yourself how we can all work together to pick up the problem, deal with it when moving forwards and afterwards discuss the situation - what do we do right now? And then what are the things you can improve on to go to the next level?”

Ross Thorpe, Head Partner at PwC Australia

Developing trust among the team is critical and the "right" person will be willing to learn from their failures and learn to understand  how they can improve their skills for future activities. Thorpe tells us why it is important to hire both a mixture of optimists and pessimists:

“Having a team with a mixture of people with different ethos will help bring people to the ground. While optimists believe that a 30% success rate is great, pessimists believe it isn’t worthwhile to invest in that activity and investing somewhere with a higher change. If you can bring these two together, you are guaranteed to get the best results possible.”

Ross Thorpe, Head Partner at PwC Australia

Thorpe believes that the key to a person’s growth comes from an inner desire to want to be better and putting measures in place to achieve personal goals. It is through passion and perseverance

as well has having surrounded himself by an trustworthy and honest team that Thorpe has achieved continued success across his career.
