Australia has long found competitive advantage in the abundance of energy available to its industry and domestic population, however the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy and other low carbon technologies has led to challenges as scale, distribution and network reliability have not met the rapidly changing requirements. The challenge is to balance the competing needs to keep consumer costs low, reduce carbon footprints while also delivering certainty in supply for investors. These competing factors have been compounded for investors by the lack of certainty around energy policy in Australia thereby impacting development and investment.
